Does McAfee scan mean McAfee is looking at my files?
-
Am I being paranoid? I never scan the files on my External Drive because I have this paranoid feeling that the people who manage my McAfee virus scan would then have access to my files and personal information. I always scan my main frame PC- but there is really nothing personal on there. But on my Extended Drive I do my taxes and some identity information is on there. I have also saved and then erased shared files from friends that include downloaded music and adult movie clips. Does McAfee look at their customer's files or what? I have not done a scan on my extension hard drive because I don't want someone at McAfee looking at my files and saying, "oh, here are his tax prep files" "what's this? downloaded music?" "Is this porn?" Even when a person erases a file, there is a trace element of deleted files that a computer tech can still retrieve. Are my concerns unwarranted? Is it okay to scan my EXT drive without having to fear someone stealing my identity or worse?

i doubt its ppl looking at it. its probably just the system going through all ur files, checking if there are any unwanted programs or possible viruses

go ahead and scan it. Norton is a legitimate anti-virus program. All they so is check files for any malicious code, they are not looking at what the data really is. There is no way any anti-virus program could do this, as there is too many people and many people do virus scans offline, so it would be impossible for McAfee to read your own files.

If you are talking about the online scanner i would say yes it can be a little risky but you are better off running the anti-virus program from your computer.

LOL :-D McAfee virus scan is not a spyware. Anti-virus program work by comparing files with their virus signatures database. Scanning in anti-virus terminology means looking for virus signatures in your files.
