I have good news and bad news. The good news is that if you got that warning it means the hacker was unsuccesful and was not able to actually break in to your computer. Further, it was most likely just a random attack - a hacker trying various addresses and hoping that one of them used a very common and easy to guess password. Since yours held up he has probably already forgotten about you and moved on to someone who was less smart about their password. The bad news is that you have no way of knowing who was trying to hack it. First of all, like I said the attack was most likely completely random. Second, most hackers are smart enough to at the very least run their traffic through a proxy so that they can't be traced easily. Third, you are not a police officer or a judge or an FBI agent, and they are the only ones who could subpoena Microsoft (the owners of hotmail) for the access logs.
