Why do I have 285 broken registry entries?

  • Doesn't that sound like an awful lot? I just did a pc tune up scan the other day and I had no broken registry entries. Do you think my computer has been hacked? What should I do? And why does the Yahoo spell checker keep telling me I have 33 spelling mistakes when I've only made one? (pc) Oh, now it's up to 56.

    That is not a lot. after a fresh install of windows 7 you will instantly have 30 or so registry errors. just clean them up and do not worry about it. just make sure you have a back up of what you remove, in-case you delete an entry you should not have. There are a whole heap of temp folders, not just the one in your app data local folder. Download and then run Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer TFC > http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files/file/187-tfc-temp-file-cleaner-by-oldtimer/ it does not have to be installed you can keep it on your desktop for use now and in the future. .

Yahoo spell check is incline to count on until it runs out of things to count sometimes. I have had nearly 400 spelling mistakes on a 150 word answer. You don't help us to elp you? What did your scan with? Most registry tools an d tune ups are scams and trying to get you to buy something. They are also very dangerous, they make assumptions of the perfect settings for a Windows install. But no 2 machines are the same, so the chances of them being right are about 500,000 to 1 against. I get a lot of trashed machines in from these programs efforts. First thing, do NOT allow the program to make ANY changes. Second download the free scanner from http://malwarebytes.org and run the full scan. This will remove any infections. Then download the free ccleaner.exe from http://piriform.com and run the registry cleaner there. Scan and fix errors repeatedly until there are no more errors. It will not mess with anything except dead entries. But always on the first scan allow it to back up the registry.
