How to change my wep key?
-
I have a Netgear n 150 wnr1000 router and Att internet. Recently I've been going over the usage and found out that there are 4-5 other apartments hooking into my internet. Somehow they got my wep key. I changed the wep key on the computer but it wont hook up to the internet and as soon as I type in the old wep key the internet works again. We tried configuring the router but we just don't know what we're doing wrong and we're sick of what should be a $40 being over $100 because of people getting on our connection. Does anyone know how to change the wep key and make the internet connect properly to the new wep key? I'm at a loss and Att wont help because our router was purchased separately. Any ideas? Please and thank you.

Answer:
What a coincidence. We have the same router. The wifi password is configured on the router, not the computer, The computer only follows what is set on the router. If the wifi password saved on the computer doesn't match the router's wifi password then you cannot get connected. That's what's happening in your case. To configure your router, connect your computer directly to it using an ethernet cable. Open your browser and go to http://www.routerlogin.net/index.htm If nobody has changed anything on the router yet, the default user name is admin and the password is password. If the defaults don't work, maybe somebody has changed them. Reset the router by pushing a pin or tip of a paperclip through a tiny hole next to the antenna. Hold it for more than 10secs until you see the power light turn off and back on. That should erase the router's settings and return everything to defaults. Once you are inside, allow the router to update the firmware so that the old Smart Wizard will be updated to the new Netgear genie. I suspect it is still not updated to v1.1.2.50. After checking for updates, click on Wireless. You will see the SSID which is the network name that appears on your wireless devices when the wifi signal is detected. On mine it's NETGEAR by default. You can change it to anything if you like. Select the Security option WPA2-PSK [AES] and enter your desired wifi passphrase. Go to your router instruction manual. use the code to enter the router through the browser. the manual should show you what options to choose. Once you have reset your wep code, then change the admin user name and admin password. Then you can use the new wep code in your computer. If you don't have the manual, google the router model and name and download the manual form the internet.

well try resetting your router as soon as you reset your router type in the new key
