Why is everyone trying to be indie?

Why is everyone trying to be "indie/alternative" now?

  • I remember about 3 years ago, EVERYONE at my school was obsessed with the store Abercrombie & Fitch, and everyone wore pink all the time, including the guys. All the girls wanted blonde hair and to look like they came from the beach. Then the next year, those same girls dyed their hair really dark and wore skinny jeans and tried to be all bad ***. Now, everyone shops at Urban Outfitters, wears those plaid shirts, and tries to be all artsy. I don't get it. How'd those people change their styles that quickly? I've always liked punk and alternative music, and it's kind of annoying to see people who have no appreciation for that music and mindset to take away from the style. Not that I invented punk or anything, but it just seems like they're missing the point and in a few years they'll totally abandon it.

  • Answer:

I know how you feel Everyone used to make fun of me for liking Michael Jackson. Now that he's dead, they're all like "OMG I love MJ! I'm his biggest fan!" So f*cking annoying -.- Sorry, I'm just venting lol. To answer your question, I guess it's just the 'in' thing right now. Those kids have no backbone. Next year, (or even next month) they'll be on to a new fashion craze. I don't think you have to worry, though. Most people can usually point out the real 'artsy/indie' kids from the posers.

And those faggoty glasses without a prescription. It's annoying. I don't want to say that I go to my own flow but they buy their **** from designer stores and hottopic trying to look cool but I buy my things from WALMART lol Always have, always will. And now people are always saying things like "lol epic" or "lol fail" and they don't even know where the **** that came from. The INTERNET. Sorry had to get my 2 cents out. Hopefully the fad will die down so I can live in peace again.

I know exactly what you mean. And I agree with the Michael Jackson thing. It's like once something is 'popular' everyone has it or loves it, which is really annoying. I just tell myself that they're so eager to 'fit in' so they just follow. I always thought it'd be such a hassle to always have the latest fashions or whatever, such a waste of money xD And same with the music. True, were not the inventors or anything but when you've liked someone or a band for ages, then they have a hit and freaking EVERYONE loves them its like wtf lol

i know how you feel. i live in California & it seems like every time i go somewhere i see someone wearing skinny jeans, cheap moccasins, messy tousled hair, tight v neck shirts, cardigans, and American Apparel jackets. Ive always liked the style and music.& you can also tell who's a real indie. posers: Their style changes every 2 months to a year hipsters/indies- they remain the same.

The classy hip hoppish style is the best one. It never fades and its a great mix of preppy and urban. mostly stuff from here: http://www.karmaloop.com/
