How much acetone is in nail polish remover?

What is acetone on nail polish remover or artificial nails mean?

  • well, a few days ago i went to target, i ran out of nail polish remover so i went to the nail department and there was a whole line of them in different colors all from the same brand, the only thing i noticed that was different was that some said 100% ace-tone, non-acetone, and acetone. i didnt really know which one i should choose so i just got the non-acetone one. i just want to know what it means. thanx!

  • Answer:

Acetone is an ingredient that's also in paint thinners/cleansers. It's sole purpose is to strip colour. Of course they add other soothing ingredients to nail-polish remover to make it less harsh but it's main intent is to strip the nail colour quickly. Non-acetone nail polish removers take a bit longer to remove as the ingredients are less harsh, but is much gentler on your nails. All in all, it's your decision: Acetone for speed, Non-Acetone for nail-care. Artificial nails are just synthetic nails you use a glue to cover your nails with, giving the appearance of acrylic or gel salon nails. However these only tend to stay on for a week at most, the glue is very rough for your nails and they tend to look sloppy. If you're thinking of going for fake nails go to a beauty salon or don't do it at all.
