What is it like being a make-up artist?

What do you have to know to be a makeup artist for plays?

  • So, I know tons about makeup. I can give the illusion of wounds, of unhealthy paleness, of radiant beauty, ect ect ect. I know how to accentuate features and shape features and work with different coloring. I know i'm not experienced enough to be a professional makeup artist that gets paid and everything, but i was thinking about trying to be a makeup artist just for school plays, or community theater if i can. Do you need to have gone to beauty school to do makeup for community theater, or do you just need to be skilled enough?

  • Answer:

If beauty school is too expensive or not an option for you, I'm guessing they should hire you if you show them how good you are. If you say you went to beauty school on your resume or something, then you will most likely get the job, because people want experienced artists.
