How do I use Shea Butter on my relaxed hair?
-
Okay, so I bought some shea butter mainly for my daughter who's hair is natural still.Mixed it with some oil for smell and I'm reading all the benefits of the product and want to know how am i to use it on my relaxed hair? Like grease (parting my hair and applying it to the scalp), like moisturizers (applying to my hair nightly before i wrap it and go to sleep), as conditioner (apply after washing, sit and wash out)....I'm lost. I want to use this 100% natural product but I just don't know how!

Answer:
I have a product that is part Shea Butter. I am guessing the consistancy of this is like hard coco butter? or is it like a creame? If its like hard coco butter, part your hair and apply directly to the scalp and use the excess on your fingers on your hair, wrap it. If its like a creame part the hair in sections and start from the top of the section down to the end of the hair, going in one direction, then wrap. Its best to moisturize at night. i've been reading alot on hair products because my hair is relaxed as well and i want to grow my hair . So i would recommend using the shea butter as either a moisturizer (daily because our hair needs moisture at all times) or i would recommend using before bed and wrapping it before you sleep. I wouldn;t part it and grease it because it may leave your scalp too greasy. Uhm , i wouldn;t use it as a conditioner because i haven't heard anyone using it like that unless it's like a shampoo with shea butter. maybe these sites can help : http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-29180.html http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/235368/organics_shea_butter_and_tea_tree_oil.html?cat=69 http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=18931 hope this helps :)

Please be more specific on your natural product. If it has no chemicals? There is no definition for natural in the industry. If it is real Shea butter (read your label it should say just Shea butter as ingredients) , you would apply it to natural hair ( not coated with stuff) leave in over night, wash and condition next day. works best for me. However if your hair is coated with oils it cannot penetrate threw those because they usually have some kind of silicone in it. Also, do a patch test first for allergens. it is a nut.

I use Shae butter as a moisturizing lotion. I have fine fly away hair so I put a small amount on my hands and smooth over hair. I guess for you you may want to test it out first us it as a moisturizer, if you need more use it to wrap your hair and if you still need more keep going. Good luck! I love it use it for hair and skin.
