How to make dry curly hair really shiny, smooth, and soft?

How can I make my curly/wavy hair look conditioned, curls defined and shiny??? heeeelllllpp!!?

  • My hair is curly but not extremely curly..if i comb it out it will look like a road with speed bumps... if i leave it curly, it will look great whilst its wet but once dry it will look very very dry...and it will feel that way too... what can i use on my hair (other than high street conditioners) to make all the curls to look shiny and defined and just moistured... i need help! (i don't want to ruin my hair with straightners all the time)

-Read the book and visit the site below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life! - To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser, butterfly clips, and a microfiber hair turban. -The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent. They dry out curly hair. - Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse. It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair. Then let your hair air dry or use a blowdryer with a diffuser. - I really like the garnier fructis products. Aussie products works great too, but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the website. Frizz-ease hair serum is amazing for fighting frizz. - This takes 2 to 4 weeks begin working. This is hard to do if you don't read the book, or at least the website. Hope this helps!

I have similar problems that you have. Here is how I fix them. After washing your hair towel dry it (or let it air dry until it is NOT dripping wet). Put some sort of cream product in (avoiding the roots). I use a product to loosen the curls. However, the choice is up to you. These products range in price. Experiment with the cheaper ones first and move your way up as necessary (that way you will waste less money). Anyway, the product will help to keep your hair lightweight and not greasy while looking its best. You may also wish to choose a gel or mouse that works for you. Next, Use a wide tooth comb and not a brush (you may chose to brush just before washing to loosen dirt from hair but not AFTER washing). The wide tooth comb should be good enough. Let the hair dry naturally. DON'T touch it while it drys. This will prevent fizz and let your hair define its self. Once FULLY dry you can put it up or leave it as is. This should help you. Try washing your hair every other day instead of every day (if you are not already doing this. That way your hair will not be as dried out and it will give the natural oils a chance to come back. Be sure when washing that you follow with a GOOD conditioner. I use Panteene Pro-V for curly hair (but I DO NOT use the shampoo). PS. If you cannot let the hair air dry use a heat activated product in the hair and leave hair slightly damp at the roots. Hope this helps. If you have any questions add them in and I'll be sure to help you if I can ok? or for a full list of products in detail add it into your question. Good luck. Hope my answer isn't too long. I just had to give all the details I knew. =)

I have the same hair as you so I use Aveda products which are all natural I love their sap moss shampoo and conditioner and also the "be curly" product. My daughter-in-law teaches hairdressing and she thinks my hair always looks in good condition and glossy.

Mayonnaise!! It's awesome, just put a generous amount all over, wrap it up with some plastic Saran wrap and blow dry for a few minutes. Hop in the shower and shampoo and condition as usual. Smells nasty but it works.....best conditioner I've ever used.

I had the same problem as you. Then I found some hair gel that is absolutely amazing. Its by Umberto Gianini and its called "Curl & Twirl" Curling Gel. In the US, its sold exclusively at Rite Aid but you can find it almost anywhere in the UK. Oh, in the UK, its called "Curl Friends". In the States, its only $5.99. Definitely give it a try!
