How much is a hair transplant for a scar?

How much hair growth should I have 5-6 months after my transplant?

  • OK, I had a hair transplant back in October. Immediately after surgery, I saw a difference in that the hair on the top of my head was thicker. It's been 5-6 months now, and while I continue to see new hair every day, I have to admit that the hair on the top of my head is not very thick at all. Furthermore, it hasn't been growing nearly as fast as I'd like. I read online that the new hairs should be about 2 inches by now, but it's barely an inch. Is it going to get thicker? Will hair growth pick up? I'm on Propecia, and started Biotin a couple weeks ago. I also started taking a multivitamin. I've gotten a lot of compliments from friends and family, all of which have said they see a big difference (including people who I didn't even tell that I was getting a transplant). But at the same time, the hair looks very short and thin to me. Am I being a neurotic -- should I just allow more time? Or is this it? Thanks.

  • Answer:

Brian, The hair starts to grow at 4 months and after this grows rather well. In case you are above 35, expect a good result only between 6-9 months. Continue Propecia 1 mg tablet only and Biotin 5 mg tablet once a day. No need to take extra vitamins. Apply 5% minoxydil foam to planted hair when you are going to bed at night.
