What's the chances of like New Jersey getting another Hurricane like storm this year?

It could but not likely. It's not likely for a hurricane to hit the area in general. Before Irene, the last hurricane was Gloria in 1985. But the ocean water is at its warmest in September. It only takes one hurricane to form and move up the coast. The ocean water is warm enough for a hurricane to maintain it's strength. I wouldn't say just yet that you guys are safe from a hurricane. Gloria back in '85 made landfall on Long Island the last week of September as a category 2 hurricane. It takes a long time for the ocean to cool off so even though the weather is getting cooler, the ocean isn't. I would say November you're safe because when Noel formed in November 2007, it transitioned into an extratropical cyclone parallel to Georgia but it still had the strength of a hurricane. An extratropical cyclone is like a nor'easter. The winter you don't have to worry about a hurricane even the water where I live in Florida is too cold for hurricanes. Tornadoes can form anytime of the year. When I lived on Long Island, I remember tornado watches happening once in every season. But if a tornado does form it's usually in the summer and fall.
