Can an aeroplane get stricken by lightning? And Why?

Is it possible for lightning to strike an aeroplane whilst airborne?

yes lightning strikes planes alot of the time but they have things on the plane to transfer the energy around the airplane and their is no chance the lightning could hit you in the cabin if you where sitting on the wing then it could be a different story.

Yes it can and it's somewhat common. Since most plane's skin is made of metal, when the lightning strikes it, it travels along the surface of the plane (similar to a faraday cage). Very seldom does it interfere with the plane's electronics, controls, or passengers. It's less common, but the same also happens to cars. Contrary to what many people believe, the rubber tires do not protect you from a lightning strike, it's the metal skin of the car.
