Why is the sky green during a tornado?

The sky is green outside. Is there gonna be a tornado?

  • Seriously. It's like a greenish reddish and it is only 8:25pm and it looks like it is only 4:00pm. If not a tornado, what the cuss is gonna happen?

    A green sky doesn't nessecarily mean that a tornado is coming. Light reflects off of moisture and hail stones up in the clouds and makes the sky look green. Usually, when the sky is green, that means that the updraft is very strong. In the summer sometimes, it doesn't get dark until like 9 so maybe its just a storm clearing up and the sun coming out for a little bit. Tune into your local TV or radio station and see if there are any warnings. Most likely, there will not be a tornado.

The color of your sky has nothing to do whether or not you will be getting a Tornado today. The sky is different colors due to the moisture in the atmosphere refracting the light.

There was a tornado in Western New York earlier today, which is probably what you saw forming. There was also an earthquake in Western New York today as well around 1:45-ish. Don't worry, there were no injuries reported for either disaster
