Where is hurricane Ike headed?

  • My friends have come here, to stay with me for hurricane Gustav. They live in Louisiana. They are going back, but dont know what day. Then hurricane Ike comes. I am hearing different things about where it is going. Is it going to Louisiana?

It's too early to tell for sure, but Texas looks most likely.

Hurricane Ike is probably headed to somewhere in far western louisiana and extreme eastern Texas. The project path can change as we head on into the week but it is all focused on where the high pressure that is now sit ted on top of Texas will move. If it moves to the east it will allow ike to make a little southern turn more to corpus but if it doesn't move at all the high pressure can block ike from any western progress and can lead it to go more north to louisiana.

It could hit Louisiana. Likely it will weaken over Cuba then strengthen back in the gulf so at least there is something to break it up out there. I think it's probably best they don't go back yet, and wait to see where it's headed.

The Cuba golf coast, so mainly it will hit Florida and it has a chance to go to Louisiana.
