How to read a barometer?

How do i read a barometer?

  • Answer:

do you have digital or manual? the manual ones have a bladder type thing inside them, sometimes you need to steam them to get them ready to start. then you have to find out what your exact barometric pressure for your altitude above sea level is, and set the barometer. then you just read the needle, it may be Hg, millibars, hectapascals, but basically the higher the pressure the sunnier it will be, very generally speaking. the rate of change is also important to note. sometimes there is a little watch-hand type thing you can move yourself over the face of the barometer, not attached to anything.... this is so you can look at the reading, line the needles up, and then go back to it in an hour and see which direction it has gone in and how far. if it is moving in a direction you will be able to tell easily, and if it moving quickly you may have extreme weather. if it is digital, enter your elevation above sea level and it will auto detect your barometric pressure. you can go to your local bureau of meterology website for exact pressures/altitudes, or some places have a weathercall service you can ring. good luck

If the needle on the barometer is dropping it indicates a cold front is coming in and there will be storminess. If the pressure is going up, that means you have a warm front setting up and it will be sunny.
