Why is it codler around 6:00 when the sun comes up?

  • why isn't it colder when the sun is in the opposite place on earth? i am pretty sure the other side isn't receiving more light and energy then at 6:00 in the morning so why is it that at 6:00 when everyone that does stuff in the day usually wakes up? i am pretty sure there is more sun warmth and sunlight closer at 6:00 to a place then at 12:00 or at 2:00. answer quick because this bothers me. waking up when you feel the most cold and at the coldest point of the day now that is horrible.

  • Answer:

The Earth receives radiation from the Sun which warms it up. The ground warms the air in contact with it. The warming cannot start until the Sun has risen and ceases when the Sun sets. At the same time, the Earth is radiating out into space. The radiation continues through the night and as it radiates heat (infra red), the ground cools down cooling the air above it. The cooling continues right through the night until the sun rises and the incoming radiation equals the outgoing radiation. This puts the coolest part of the day a minute or two after sunrise. The temperature can fall below the dewpoint and often does. When it does, dew or frost are deposited or fog forms.

At night, all the heat you received from the day rises and goes back out into space. As the night goes on, more and more heat rises and leaves the Earth and keeps doing it until the sun rises. So the temperature decreases as you lose heat. Then when the sun rises, the heat starts to return and all the heat usually reaches the surface usually between 2:00 and 5:00pm.

It is like a boiling pot of water. At first, when you turn off the heat, the water is boiling. As it sits there with the heat off, the boiling stops, and the longer it sits there, the cooler it gets. The temperature will continue to drop until it approaches room temperature, or in the case of the weather, as it approaches the dew point. The dew point is basically the coldest the temperature can possibly reach given the current weather conditions. Once the pot gets to that coldest temperature, it will remain there until more heat is added, or in this case, the sun rises. I hope that clears it up.
