Why does water have such a low vapor pressure?

Why does low pressure help water vapor to condense?

  • So I am doing this science experiment. We put water in a bottle with some smoke. Put on the cap and squeeze the bottle simulating high pressure. When you release and it goes to low pressure the inside bottle walls are covered in condensation. I am a little confused as to why when there is low pressure that water vapor condenses and not in high pressure. Please help!

  • Answer:

I'm not sure this is what's happening in this case, but low pressure can cause condensation because lowering pressure in a closed container causes the air to cool, and if it cools enough some of the contained water vapor will condense.
