2007 Atlantic Hurricane Season?

  • August and September are the most dangerous months for the States, but the most favorable and perfect months for hurricanes to form. We're already in the 2nd week of August and we have our first hurricane of the season, Hurricane Dean. As I'm typing up this "question", Hurricane Dean's maximum sustained winds are at 90 mph, a measley Category 1 hurricane. Meteorologist and guys from the NOAA are predicting this hurricane to become a Category 4 or 5 by next week right before it makes landfall in the Yucutan Peninsula. Do you guys/girls think this will be a reannactment of the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season (Katrina, Rita, Wilma), being that our first hurricane could become a monster like Katrina? Or will it be another renactment of the 2006 Hurricane Season? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Atlantic_hurricane_season http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Atlantic_hurricane_season

  • Answer:

All the condtions are ripe for an active season, but so far we have been lucky. I thnk if things keep as they have been we will not see many storms, but it only takes one or two strong ones to ruin a summer.

This could go either way. It could like 2006, where we only had 7 or 8 named storms, but only 2(Alberto and Ernesto) made landfall, both as tropical storms. 2005 was just devastating, although I don't foresee 2007 to be like 05'. I think it will be like 1992. Remember, Andrew didn't form until around this time, or a little later, and devastated Louisiana, as a category 5. To me, it won't be either year. I think it will be along the lines of 1992.
