Running nose whenever weather is cold?

Is there a way to prevent your nose from running when outside in very cold weather?

  • Answer:

In cold weather, your nose runs because: "Underneath the glands that secrete mucus, you have huge amounts of tiny blood vessels, which help supply these glands. In cold weather, these blood vessels dilate or grow larger. This means you have more blood supply to your nose, which in part protects your nose from the cold, but it also means your nose will begin producing greater amounts of mucus and liquid." Wearing a loose-knitted scarf or mask over your mouth and nose can help - just make sure the weave is loose enough to allow for easy breathing. The key is to keep the incoming air warmer. Good luck!

No. Carry a snot rag with you to blow into or blow it onto the ground while pinching one nose.

Don't do the nose plug thing, You'll end up sick. The reason the blood flow increases is to warm the air before it hits your lungs. That crap dripping is actually a good thing.
