Submarine canyons may have formed as river valleys during the ice age?

Ice age questions, please.?

  • If you lived in South-East Florida, and an 'ice age' started, 1. How long before the ice age weather effected Florida? 2. Would the water level around florida (ocean) slowly drop as the ice formed?

  • Answer:

'Ice Age' is a relative thing, it may already be happening, and doesn't take much to have a very large effect. If you mean the kind that covers half of North America with an ice sheet several miles thick, well, that takes thousands of years to happen. I'm in central FL, slightly north of mid, and new to the area. The locals tell me that *last* winter was the *worst* in anyone's living memory! Meaning freeze 3 nights in a row. Yes, that was a record, recently, relatively, for the local area. Doesn't sound like much but it *devastated* the local flora. A few weeks ago we had two nights in a row freeze and a lot of plants got frostbit again and dropped leaves that they normally shouldn't. Soooo the question becomes can these plants survive a 'killer' freeze two years in a row? We'll see. That's what I mean by relative: how well flora/fauna survive, or if they're damaged enough to die off and allow other hardier flora to 'move in.' No, you won't be able to walk to Bermuda (within our lifetimes.) :)
