What is it like to be in a hurricane?

  • What is it like to be in a hurricane in Haiti? Please can you also describe what it would look like as well. Answers appreciated

  • Answer:

Bob, as a hurricane approaches land it may indeed be exciting to observe the surf grow and the sky darken but to be in a hurricane is indeed a very frightening experience. During the famous hurricane of 1969 in New Orleans there were groups of people having hurricane parties believing they were sate and could "ride out" the storm. Many of these people were swept away with the wind and water. During those hours it must have been hell for the one who lost their lives. As the storm gets closer and closer you are unable to be out and "observing" what it looks like because it is far too dangerous with flying objects and wind force which can literally blow you away. If I were in Haiti and knew a storm was approaching I would take refuge in the mountains and not in the buildings of the island which we know are not storm worthy. I hope this gives you a little better "feel" for such an awesome phenomenon as a Hurricane.

Well it looks the same as any hurricane. I love riding out Hurricanes, they give me an adrenaline rush. But for some people it can be very scary.
