What is orographic rainfall?

What is the difference between orographic lift and orographic uplift, if any?

  • What is the difference between orographic lift and orographic uplift, if any? I need to know so that I can properly research and print of resources for my upcoming Weather and Climate class project, and my topic is Orographic uplift and thunderstorms, and how orographic uplift affects thunderstorms that occur over mountains. Thanks for the help in advance, Razorflame

  • Answer:

No difference. It is where the air is deflected upwards by geography (a mountain). It can create thunderstorms if the air reaches the dew point before the before crossing the mountains. When the air arrives at the dew point the release of latent heat further assists the uplift.
