Weather map Dew point QUESTION?
-
for a lab i filled out a weather map for dew point temps, and it states that dew points of 20 degrees or greater have the potential energy needed to produce severe weather, and to shade in the region where dew point temps are greater than 20 however in the map of canada we received, there is no region of temperatures higher than 20, rather low temperatures in the negatives. Why is this? THANKS

Answer:
Well, if the temperatures are in the negatives, that means you have an air mass that is too dry for severe weather. Dry air at the surface tends to limit cloud formation, and if lifted, tends to cool faster, limiting how high the clouds will go if they form.
