I want to become a Labor and delivery nurse.

How to become a maternity nurse?

  • i want to know how to become a nurse that helps assist with labor, delivery and post-partom delivery. i know already that you have to be an RN, and i'm looking to get my BSN. i don't want to be any other kind of nurse. i've looked at thousands of websites, but they are only confusing me. i would also like to know what high school courses are required/suggested to have to obtain such degree, and how long it takes to work in desired field. please help!

  • Answer:

It doesn't matter where you want to work in the nursing field you have to have either and Associate's degree of nursing (ADN degree) or and BSN degree to do so. After you graduate then you pick where you want to work at such as in the labor and delivery area. While in school if you know that is where you want to work you can do rotations in these areas to make sure that is what you want to do. High school courses to obtain that degree or college courses? You just have to have a GED or graduate from high school. As far as college courses that depends on what college you are going to go to. You can get a two year nursing degree though (ADN) from most community/tech campuses located everywhere and some online and it doesn't take four years to complete. Hope this helps, I am a nurse.
