Fertility Awareness The three phases of the menstrual cycle are the result of four hormones. These hormones have other observable effects as well. CCL’s Sympto-Thermal Method of NFP is based on three key signs of fertility: Cervical mucus Temperature Cervix These are easily noticed by any woman who has learned to watch for them. As these signs are observed, they are recorded on a chart. The chart provides a daily record that can be used to identify the days of fertility and infertility. And once the fertile and infertile days have been identified, the couples apply “rules” that they learn in class and that are explained in CCL’s Student Guide to frame the boundaries between the phases of the cycle. Cervical mucus appears in response to estrogen. It is nothing to be “ashamed of,” and is a natural, healthy and clean fluid of the body just like tears or saliva. As a matter of fact, cervical mucus is necessary for the proper functioning of a woman’s reproductive system. Mucus also is an aid to fertility because it provides a swimming medium for sperm, provides nutrients for sperm, and enables sperm to survive for days in a woman’s cervix area where the sperm temporarily “take up residence” while waiting for ovulation. When there is no mucus, sperm life is very short, measured in hours, because the normal vaginal environment is very acidic and hostile to sperm. Women can easily learn to become aware of their cervical mucus through what they feel and sense, and what they see. Once observed, mucus is recorded on the fertility chart each day.

i loved the nuva ring, it was almost effortless, comfortable. i got off of it because we thought it might be reducing my labido, but that really wasn't it. I just don't really care to have sex anymore. maybe due to menopause.
