How can I keep a rear-facing car seat from 'slipping' out of place?
-
One month of use, and the car seat is almost laying down! We just can't get this seat to stay more upright. The seat just keeps tipping back to too much recline. We had the Evenflo Triumph 5 'professionally installed'. Didn't last, Another child seat tech installed with pool noodles. Better fit this time but now its tipping too far back again. Our lil guy is 21 months old / weighs 26 pounds / is 32 inches tall. Luckily, we don't use this car much. But seems like every time we do, we need to take out and re-adjust the car seat. We do have seats in our other two cars, but they don't fit in this car so that solution is out. Is there something we can put under the seat to help keep seat in place? We had this issue with Cosco Scenera in a Mercury Sable with 'bucket like' bench seat. We now have a LeMans, similar seats. This time we bought the Evenflo Tribute 5 thinking we would be fine. But ..... once again this seat just slides into a major recline, past the 'level'. I am cringing thinking I will have another year of fussing with this seat! I want it in, and DONE !!

Answer:
Not all car seats fit all cars. Bucket seats are the worst to fit. Contact the manufacturer and ask what you can do to make this seat fit before you return it. We had a terrible time keeping seats stable in a Mercury Marquis with leather seats. The seats would just slip. I still think it was because of the slipperiness of the leather and nothing wrong with the seat. I put a shelf liner on the seat bottom and back and then installed the seat and it stayed put. I refer to those rubbery shelf liners that keep stuff from slipping.

"Is there something we can put under the seat to help keep seat in place" These mask the installation, making them seem secure when they're not, so no. Are you using LATCH or the seat belt? I'll be able to give you better tips when I know. Also, car-seat.org is the most qualified to answer this. I was able to get my Tribute in rock solid with a lap belt (older car, no shoulder belt in the center) *eta http://www.car-seat.org/showpost.php?p=2014527&postcount=5 Look at the photo, see how she's behind the seat? Another good way to get a seat tight and prevent over-reclining is to use your hips to push down and in from the top of the seat, while pushing with your hand on the bottom of the seat. The more you can wedge the car seat into the seat, the less chance of it reclining after installation.

You need to take your vehicle to your local fire station or police station during car seat installation clinic - contact your fire station first and ask.
