i cant believe what i heard!! i have a cousin who is a year younger than me, shes 21, she has never worked a day in her life and neither has her partner (26), they have openly admitted to not wanting to work because they are loaded on benefits! they live in a cushy council house near their friends who live the same way, she got pregnant when i was pregnant 1st time round and now she is due in 4 weeks, anyway back on the story.....i took my son to my grandparents and she was there as she had just been shopping and showed me this brand spanking new double buggy ( the pram i got for my son i had to lend money as we couldnt affort the full amount with our wage) i asked her how she could afford it (cheeky i know) and she replied 'its that £500 grant we get off the council coz were on benefits!!'...she is being rewarded for not working and purposly expecting everybody else to pay for her children!! £500, i would love to have that much to spend on my child!!!! on top when the baby is born she will be on more or less £85 child tax credits, £50+ income support,£20 x2 child benefit all weekly, plus £45 for her other child, she is on something else but i dont know what it is, and also recieving milk tokens and these nappy vouchers she recieves, so non of it will be spent on that, so thats easy well over £200 a week! were i get £95 a week working and anything else i get go on my sons nursery!! ....a lot of people are doing it and its really sickening because i feel i am wasting my time working so hard to provide for my son but i dont want to be like that and not feel like i am not supporting my own children, i believe benefits should be for hard working people who have come into difficulty and need help for example- the credit crunch, people who have lost their jobs, not leaving school and seeing this as a "wage", i know we all moan about it but is there anything that is being done about it or is this how the world is going now?? sorry i was just really upset i needed a rant lol

Answer:
I agree with many of the other statements here... the welfare state rewards those who want to sponge off it, while we hard-working folk struggle to get by and take care of our own. In the US, there is more and more of a push to have more people get benefits of all sorts, extending unemployment, aid and vouchers of all sorts; and it will only get worse with our new president-to-be, and the tax-and-spend Democratic party. They do not foster or encourage personal responsibility-- rather, the opposite. I fear to see what will have happened in our country over the next 5-10 yrs.

I think it's ******* disgusting too. People like that are SCUM, they deserve NOTHING, and i don't understand why hardworking people should pay for THEM to lounge around all day cause they were too dumb to get a decent education and too lazy to find work. At least you know you're a better person than they are, and you deserve everything you get cause you've worked hard for it.
i know its disgusting isnt it that they continually get away with these things but the government have to make sure that the children are not living in poverty and so keep handing out money to these parents. trouble is the kids are going to grow up believing you dont have to work these days. where will it all end it is frustrating especially when you working hard, but remember in years to come you provided everything for your children and you should be proud of that. i certainly am, cos i always worked odd hours to coincide with my hubbys hours, so that one of us cud always be there for the kids. with me working it took us over the family tax threshold so ***** claim any help, but i continued working, as it made me feel good

Yes, I contribute about £15,000 a year in taxes from my income alone to fund these parasites. The welfare state really p!sses me off.

Unfortunately you can bang your head against the wall and fly into a rage but it won't help the situation. I am just as frustrated as you, trust me. My personal favourite is when they get the option to buy their accommodation in a really nice area and make an absolute packet out of it while the rest of us have to beg, borrow and steal to purchase a place in an area nowhere near as nice. *sigh* Ignore it, or you will drive yourself mental. Till the government is made to understand there is no merit in letting people sit on their behinds for years, the country will go deeper and deeper into it. I am all for helping people down on their luck, but patience does have a limit and there should be concrete steps to get them back on their feet and working, or they are on their own.

if you get the highest amount of tax credit you can get that grant too, working or not.
Some people on benefits are genuine though. I receive incapacity benefit. This is due to me suffering from depression, panic attacks, anxiety etc. I used to work. I started to work when I was 15 years old. I used to do kitchen work at weekends and in the holidays. When I was 16 I started a child care course. At 17 I went into working with elderly people wuith dementia. I used to work 40 hour weeks, including weekends. All this changed when I was nearly 18, after I was raped by a friend's ex boyfriend. I thought he was my friend and he turned on me in the worst possible way. I carried on working, even after my niece died of cot death 8 months later. It was not until I was 20 that I started to experience flashbacks, panic attacks etc. I could not sleep, suffered severe nightmares etc. I was put onto incapacity benefit as I was deemed Unstable to work. I got pregnant with my daughter when I was nearly 21. I did not receive any money until I was 5 months pregnant. I was not entitled to the grant until after I had my daughter. I got it when she was 3 months old, after I had got everything second hand for her. The only thing I brought for her was a new travel system for £150 which included the pushchair, car seat, in car base, cosy toes, raincover and change bag. The rest of the money I put into a savings account for her when she is older as I believe the money is for her. The only reason I brought a new pushchair/car seat was because mine was second hand and already showing signs of breaking. So please do not tar everyone with the same brush. I do know what you mean though. There is a lady down the road from me who both her and her husband claim benefits. They have 6 children and must rake in over £300 a week in benefits. They live in a 4 bedroom council house as well. I do feel for you ,but i generally needed that money through no fault of my own

I know what you mean my hubby works full time and earn just over a £1000 a month, my neighbour whom also has never done a days work in her life along with her new partner she has 6 kids at home 2 left and she gets over £1300 a month in tax credits, i mean how unfair is this !

It's the Sure Start Grant....all mums who are claiming income support can claim and get it. Unfortunately though I couldn't get it because I do a thing called hard work. How's this for irritating though, I live in a 1 bed flat on the Isle of Dogs, near where I work (I'm taking a year's unpaid sabbatical break on work so I can enjoy a year with my son.) I can't afford to move into a bigger place, even working full time and the credit crunch bringing prices down. The council turned me down flat for a place through them because I earn too much to be considered. So I'm kind of stuck here for a while. Meanwhile, a 20 year old single mum I know with a three year old daughter who has never worked a single day in her life because she can't be bothered to has just been give a three bedroom, brand new flat in the same area as me. Get this though, that place is too big for her as it's just her and her daughter. When I rang the council and told them "you refused me to get a place with you because I eanr too much but gave a lowlife songle mum I know a three bedroom brand new flat. How's that even right? At least you know I'd be able to PAY THE RENT MYSELF." The woman on the other end of the phone said "We wouldn't do that;" I tol her again plainly I know for fact they would and they have and she just put the phone down. Funny that. So, I feel your anger. Believe me...this is how we're repaid for working.
