whatever you do, don't just park them in front of the tv have em color or something, or for older kids do their homework with a promise of a reward.

do a runner b4 the parents get home
just have fun! seriously, dont just sit there and watch them play. get in with them. when they play doll house, play with them. when they dress up, put on a scarf and wig too. when they dance, dance with them. they love when you interact with them by playing what they love to do. act professional when the parents come home and when you get there, when they leave, just beyourself and have fun. just make sure to clean everything up perfectly, even if you didnt make the messes or the messes didnt happen while you were there. be safe. anything not safe is not good. they may not like that you said no but they get over it. also, lil kids love being picked up and twirled around. they love it so so much! youll be fine. i swear! have fun! they will not want you to go home! literally, they will ask if you want to sleepover or hang out tomarrow! lol! =]

you are responsible for them. make sure you are not talking to your boyfriend on the phone and always watching them.

Take them to the park and let them loose.

Always keep the young ones doing something. Play a game, play dress up.... The kids will love you b/c "You are fun!" and the parnets will love that you interact with the kids. Parents loving you keep the jobs coming. Plus, if you have fun with the kids and play nice, they will listen to you better. Kids hate to have their "cool babysitter" mad at them, therefore they wont act up.

Get a list of phone numbers, put it by the phone. Get the RULES of the house! (bedtimes, meals, snacks, etc) Kids WILL try to get away with more! Plan fun activities, bring a box with 'special items', toys, paints, games, etc. to keep the kids entertained. This will also allow them to see having you as a babysitter a 'treat' instead of a punishment. Set up grounds rules, what you charge per hour, or if you charge more past a certain time, or more if you have to give baths, etc. If you can, take a babysitting class, our local YMCA offers them, and also a child/infant first aid and CPR class. This is a HUGE plus when parents are looking for a sitter. You could advertise at schools or in the paper. Good luck!

Make sure you don't bend any rules that mom and dad have set. If it's bedtime at 7 p.m., make sure that's when they go. If the kids think they can start pushing the boundaries with you, they may keep pushing. No candy and sodas. If they're older, find some indoor activities you can do with them that they will enjoy - story telling, drawing, little craft ideas. Remember babysitting can be hard work and is a big responsibility - chatting with friends on the phone and text messaging can wait until you get home.
