What is a Social Concern?

What advice or what should I, a concern grandmother, do if I want custody of my granddaughter?

  • I am the paternal grandmother who is seeking custody of my beautiful granddaughter. I live in California and she lives with her mother in Indiana. The problem is that her mother has had problems with alcohol and depression pills in the past which was the result of me owning temporary custody. But after a year, she got mad at her husband and left to Indiana. My concern is that she is not a stable mother since she is always getting fired from job to job, moves from house to house, and always present my niece with new guys. I want my niece to grow a healthy and happy life but her selfishness is not letting her. I have recently gotten text from her complaining that her brother has to pay for her my granddaughter medicine, clothes, food, etc. so that is already telling me that she is not able to support her financially. Since she is always getting fire from her jobs, she is not able to pay for baby sitters so she tells me that she sometimes lets her new boyfriend take care of her which I am concern. My granddaughter has also been taken away from the government two times already. Not only does the mother have pills and alcohol issues from the past, but she had to endure a trouble childhood which I am afraid that my granddaughter is going to go through. Please help, What are my rights or what can i do. Please, please help I have no idea what to do. I have tried talking to a social worker that knew the situation and there was even time period where she told me I was going to be able to go to court and fight for her (which she said that I had a high chance of getting custody of her) but then she stopped talking to us and when she did the mother got custody of my granddaughter. The father (my son) is involved with drugs so he has no intentions of getting clean and fighting for her own daughter. So please help, anything will be great and appreciated. Thank you.
