Will the nanny get a remake?

I don't know what kind of job to get? Sick of being a nanny?

  • I have been in childcare for about 7 years now. I used to enjoy it but now I hate it. Every nanny job I get I get totally taken advantage of. Because they all want to pay me under the table they will pay me ridiculously low amounts (as in 5 bucks an hour) and expect me to clean their house and cook their dinner and care for the kids. I am sick of the instability of these jobs. Yet...childcare is all I know. I don't know what else to do. I don't like working in daycares and I don't like being a nanny. Now I'm focusing on having my own child and suddenly I realized I've always wanted to be a mom, not a nanny. This is not my career choice. But I fear I have no other skills? Clearly I need to reconsider my major too. Any advice on how to figure out where to go?

I would have fun playing the job field until you figure out what you really want to do. One of my all time fav jobs was working as a cook at a franchise restaurant. Great people, used your skills, fast paced, solo work in a team environment, and I personally have to do something in which I use my hands It's not something a business woman may call successful, but if it makes you happy and pays the bills, that's all you need. That is success in my opinion. There are a lot of good jobs our there, that are for some reason looked down on by college/university majors. Even if it's not something you want to do forever, it'll give you time (and the financial means) to figure out what your really interested in

Take a career aptitude test. It will show you good options for you to major in based on what you enjoy doing. If the pay is the biggest part that bothers you about being a childcare provider maybe you should go to school. You'll get paid more anywhere you go if you have a degree. A friend of mine only made about $6 an hour as a nanny but she got a certification in early childhood development and a daycare hired her and now she makes $9 an hour.
