When is the best time to take a baby off of formula?
-
My son is 11 1/2 months, he uses Isomil Advance. His grandmother says one year then he can be off formula. I say about a year and a half, because babies still develop and need the vitamins and nurishment from the formula. When my daughter was a baby she was on Isomil as well and I slowly switched her to regular milk when she was about 20 months. What do you think?

Answer:
Ask your pediatrician what their guidelines are but by age 1 babies should be getting lots of other nutrients from food. I'd definitely have him off the formula by 1 1/2, but as long as you start introducing whole milk and don't allow him to use the formula as a meal replacement, it won't hurt to continue to allow him to drink it. Breastmilk is different because it actually changes as the baby grows to accomodate what the baby needs, nutritionally. Formula stays the same, so you have to make sure you're introducing a variety of foods that meet your baby's nutritional needs.

I waited until they were about 13 months and then slowly blended whole milk with the formula. In the beginning 6oz formula and 2oz milk. By 15 or 16 months they were on whole milk. good luck

Usually a doctor will tell you when. But it is usually 1 years old. Then it is on to vitamin D ( or what ever you choose)

a year sweetie. after a year i would put him on whole milk then at about 2 1/2 i would switch to 2% if he is a healthy active boy. i know you think that he needs vit and nourishment but he should get that from the whole milk and solid foods that you give him. i did what i am telling you with both of mine and they are so healthy and beautiful. good luck hun and if you still have doubts then you can always ask the doc :)

No earlier than a year and then it depends upon the baby after that. Your son may prefer the taste of the formula Isomil Advance over whole milk for a while longer. Ask his pediatrician about his weight and if he's ok to reduce calories right now. If your baby is overweight, this is a good time to transition down to milk.

Why spend the money when you don't have to? Your suppose to ween them off when they turn 2. Then put them on whole cows milk. That's what my pediarician says. That's what I did with my son and he's 2 now and totally healthy. Put your child on cows milk on her birthday. Your being too nerotic if you keep him on formula, that's just weird.
I love my kids!
