How much should I ask for babysitting?

How much should I ask for/expect to be paid for babysitting/ being a nanny for 4 children?

  • I am 21, I have been babysitting for the same family for about 8 years now. They have four children, ages 9, 8, 4 and 1. This summer, I was asked to babysit every day of the summer, as well as all school vacations. Since I will be with the kids from morning (about 8:30 am) until evening (about 5:00), I don't think it would be realistic to expect to be paid my normal hourly rate (about 10 an hour) since I will be there everyday. I think it would be more appropriate to work out a daily rate of how much I should charge. What are your suggestions?

Nanny salaries depend on a lot of things. The state you live in, the number of kids, your experience, what duties you do other than childcare. I have been a nanny for 20 years.
