Can I still negotiate after verbally accepting an offer?

Should I try to negotiate the settlement offer?

  • My former employer has offered me 1500 quid to settle out of court instead of going to employment tribunal. Should I just accept or push for a little more? I am due to give birth in 17 days and to be honest I would be glad to just put it behind me and finish the matter. How ever I do feel a bit soft just accepting their first offer... If they refuse to negotiate would I still be able to accept the 1500 quid?

Usually if you don't accept the offer before negotiating and it doesn't go well they don't offer the before amount. If you want it over, take the deal but if you really feel you want more, go for more. Even if you tell them 500 more and it'll be over. Its not soft to take the first offer if its what you would have wanted. With giving birth in 17 days maybe earlier do you really want to be dealing with the issue after your birth?

Hello, You know how you feel.If you refuse you could end up waiting much longer and getting less.As you are about to have a baby the money will come in handy.You could go to the Citizens Advise Bureau and ask for advise.I know that one day a week they have a free solicitor there too. Good Luck.x

i guess u should!

they never expect you to take the first offer, they always expect you to push for more. send a letter by recorded post saying that you would be happy to settle out of court however their offer is too low. make an offer of say £2500 and expect them to then offer to meet you in the middle at £2000.
