Are irregular periods okay?

TTC with irregular periods?

  • I have always had irregular periods but have just started tracking them in September 2010. So far my periods have been 53 days, 46 days, and 35 days. I am not sure I am ovulating, but I took an OTC fertility test for FSH on day 3 of this cycle, and it came back OK. I haven't talked to my doctor yet because I am currently trying to work on getting my blood pressure under control. I recently switched from Cozaar to Labetalol which appears to be working well to control my blood pressure, although we are still altering my dosage. With my high blood pressure, irregular periods, and lack of PMS symptoms, I am concerned about PCOS. I'll be talking to the doctor probably at my next follow-up in 3 weeks. But I guess my question is... We've been off birth control since March 2010 but not REALLY actively trying until the last couple of months. I mostly read to wait a year before seeking outside help, but with the irregular periods and other symptoms I am not sure I should wait that long. I'll be 28 in two weeks. Has anyone had success getting pregnant with irregular periods (with or without PCOS) without medication? How long did it take you to get pregnant? I'm just trying to alleviate some stress. This has been bugging me for a few months and like most of you TTC, it is getting to me that everyone else I know seems to be pregnant or recently has a baby besides me!

  • Answer:

Go to a naturopath, they are amazing. My naturopath put me on a herbal tonic to regulate my cycle and I now have a 28 day cycle and ovulate around day 14. It took me 3 months on the tonic and I fell pregnant. The tonic is used to balance out your hormones and prepare the uterus for implantation. OPK's are a great way of finding out when you ovulate too. You just may have to use 2 packs to ensure you test enough days that you don't miss your sighns of ovulation. Check your cervical mucus too, when it changes to look similar to egg white you are most likely ovulating (or about too) there's a heap of ways you can check for ovulation signs, just see whick one works for you. But if you want to get your cycle regular, I really recommend seeing a naturopath :)
