Can a blood pregnancy test be wrong?

I took a blood test for pregnancy and it came back negative. Can they be wrong?

  • Me and my husband have been trying to have another baby for about a month now, and I stopped taking my birthcontrol at the same time we decided to try. Well, I'm 8 days late now, and I got a blood test done today (I've tried taking home test, but with my first baby I took like 7 and they were all negative but I was actually pregnant) But that test came back negative. We've been trying for one nightly, If I got pregnant recently,is it possible that it is too early for it to be found in my blood? As in, if I got pregnant within the last couple of nights, Would the blood test I took today be able to recognize that already?

    If you conceived only a few days ago, it wouldn't show up quite yet, even on a blood test. HCG is produced by the implanted fetus, and implantation usually happens at 7-10 dpo. It's possible you could still be pregnant, and it's just too early to tell yet! I know, it's SOOO hard to wait, but hang in there till around the time you'd expect your period. If you have a blood test then, it would be much more accurate than right now. Wish me luck too, my 2ww is almost up! AF is due tomorrow, and I'm hoping she lost my address!! yes, it could be too early. you have to have a certain level of HCG in your blood for it to be considered positive. Go back next week and get another one. I think you would get a positive then. I have one done and they told me it was "inconclusive" and I had to come back in 48 hours as my level would be higher. good luck!

More than likely you didn't get pregnant within the last couple of days, since ovulation is 14 days after the first day of your period. A blood test is very accurate, so if it says your not then you probably arent. What it is is that you just came off of birth control now your hormones are every where and your cycle needs to regulate. Good Luck!!!!!

It might not show up, I know it is really uncommon but it happened with me. I wasn't sure if I was Oing so my dr had me come in at the end of the month and he did a blood test that tested for ovulation AND pregnancy and both came back neg. He told me that sometimes women have an off cycle like that and so the after another 3 wks I still didn't get my period I tested again and got a + right away. My dr told me that we must have gotten pregnant the week of the bloodtest. That being said I think bloodtests are like 98% accurate. Good luck I hope you get that double line soon!

Your periods won't be as regular now that you're off the pill. And it may take a few months for your periods to regulate. If your blood test came back negative, then you are not pregnant. Just relax about it -- you only just started trying! And plus you got pregnant before, so it won' t be hard. You know you're both fertile. So just take your prenatal vitamins and it will happen.
