Will My Doc Prescribe Me Clomid?

If I'm not ovulating then why doesn't my obgyn prescribe Clomid?.....?

  • She keeps on prescribing Provera but I'm getting my period each month. She's checked for thyroid, PCOS, ovaries, tubes, uterus..and everything is normal. I'm not sure why I'm not ovulating but shouldn't she just prescribe Clomid now? She's confirmed with blood that I didn't ovulate....I've been charting, using opk etc.......so now what? Should I go see another doc?

  • Answer:

I've been having the same problem. My Dr. prescribed Provera for me every month since June b/c I got off of birth control after taking for 8-1/2 yrs and my period never wanted to come. The provera worked in bringing by period back but I too was not ovulating. For the last 3 months Sept, Oct & Nov. she prescribed clomid for me with each month upping the dosage b/c i still wasn't ovulating. I have taken a vaginal ultrasound and blood test every month and I just took my last blood test to check for ovulation this tuesday and still nothing. Now she wants to stop me on clomid beings it's been 3months and nothing and she wants me to go an get a HSG test done to determine if my tubes would be blocked. This test is supposedly $1000 and insurance doesn't pay for it so that is another option you have to see if anything is wrong as in a reason for not ovulating. Good Luck to you.

If she can find the cause, it woudl be better to just fix the problem than to put your body through clomid. I understand you are anxious, but ask her if there are any more tests. If so just get them done. If not then as k her why the wait. Provera is NOT a contraceptive. It is progesterone. It causes a period by progesterone withdrawal once you stop takign it. This is the same thign that triggers menstruation naturally. Progesterone rises after ovulation-this is probably one test your doctor did that helped her determine you were not ovulating. WHen progesterone levels drop, either naturally or after provera your period begins.

Isn't Provera a contraceptive? I'd ask why she's prescribing this and not another drug. If you don't like what she's doing, you go somewhere else. You're not locked in to one provider (unless it's an insurance thing) you know. http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/pro1361.htm info on Provera

If you dont feel comfortable with your dr, definatly get a second opinion. And certainly ask her why she hasnt prescribed the Clomid yet! The day my doc got my 21 day progesterone blood test and saw that I wasn't ovulating he started me on 50mg a clomid. Did my first round this month. Good luck. And baby dust to you!

Ask her why? Then if you don't like that answer she gives you, seek out another Doctor. Good Luck!

Emma's Mummy!!

I had the same problem. I would get my period for about 6 months straight then I wouldn't get for about 4 months or longer. I found a great doctor and found out that I had pulps on my ovaries. I had to have surgery to remove most of them and for the ones that my doctor couldn't get I took medicine for them and then they were gone. Maybe you should ask if you need an Ultrasound of your ovaries or go to a specialist that deals with helping women conceive. You may find a better answer. You could also have blood test done too.

she is absolutely right clomid is also Good for an-ovulation. It's a first line treatment to induce and regulate ovulation.

Did she check your FSH and LH hormone levels? I was always having irregular periods and after a year of TTC the doctor tried Clomid with no success. Then, he referred me to a fertility specialist. Provera will only bring on a period, but doesn't make you ovulate. Also, I was diagnosed with POF - Premature Ovarian Failure (ran out of eggs) at the age of 21. I suggest changing OB/Gyns or seeing a specialist. Check out this site on more info on POF: http://pofsupport.org/information/factsheet/fact_sheet_english.pdf Good Luck!
