Amount of days between ovulation and 1st day of period- Is it always 14 days?
-
-Not trying to conceive, but you ladies really know your stuff so I'm asking you :) 14 days is the "textbook" amount of time between ovulation and the first day of your period. But this can't always be true. Do any of you have a different amount of time between the two?

I almost always have 12 days. It can vary from 9-16 days. For most women, there the time between ovulation and the beginning of menstruation only varies a day or two from cycle to cycle. A great book on the topic of fertility and monthly cycles is Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Wenschler. Even if you're not charting your fertility signs, it is a great resource to understand the normal variations in cycles.

Depends on your own cycle. You could have a 30 or 31 day cycle and it's not true for everyone. That 14 days is just a standard and a "rule". Just like any other standard it isn't for everyone.

No...definitely not. When conceiving my son I ovulated on day 18. The way we conceived was ovulation predictor kits...just like a preggo test...pee on a stick....they aparantly were "spot on"!

If you have a regular period every 28 days, then yes, 14 days is the text book. Most women are regular 28 days, but many women have irregular periods so it is harder to predict their ovulation times. They will need to monitor their body temperature to find their precise ovulation time of the month each month when they are trying to get preggers.

Actually it is 15 days after the start of your period but it can happen well before or well after that 15 day mark. It just depends on the individual.

It can vary completely. All women are different. As a rule, women ovulate 12 - 17 days BEFORE the onset of their NEXT period. But not all women, and not all of the time.

yes, that is textbook. i can also tell you a free and easy way to know when you're ovulating. it is taught in 3rd world countries where women can't afford or have no access to birth control. and it works, because i did it for 12 years with no pregnancies be observant when you wipe, after using the restroom. when you find a clearish thick glob of mucous on the tissue, kind of like egg white, that is the sign that you are ovulating. you are fertile then, and for 3 days after that. from the time of your period until you get the "sign" is called the yellow zone. probably won't get pregnant, but use protection in case you miss the sign. once you get the sign, use protection (or abstain, assuming you don't want to get pregnant) then and for 72 hours (red zone). after that, go for it - you won't get pregnant (green zone)

14 days is pretty much right if your cycle is the perfect 28 day cycle. They can vary depending the length of your cycle and your body. The best way you can find your ovulation time is to monitor it by doing basal body temperatures. If you do it for 3 months you should be able to see a pattern and can pinpoint the time.
