How can you tell the difference between Decidual Bleeding and Menstrual Bleeding?

How can you tell the difference between a period and vaginal bleeding during a pregnancy?

  • My and my partner are TTC... And I am wondering what the difference is? I have read that you can have vaginal bleeding during a pregnancy that can resemble a period. Does it still come with the cramping and so forth? Or is it just bleeding with no pain? Thanks :)

    Some women do have some spotting and cramping during pregnancy, but having real bleeding is not exactly normal and it may indicate a problem if you are indeed pregnant. I think many of women who are desperate to conceive (myself included) don't want to give up hope for a bfp so they think that maybe they are having implantation bleeding or are bleeding for some other reason when it's really just their period. The only real way to tell the difference is to talk to your doctor and take a pregnancy test. Lots of luck and baby dust! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!! :)

if you are pregnant and bleeding, you should probably be seen by a doctor right away. from what i know the most you should see is a little spotting.

So you're TTC and not pregnant yet? Are you asking about like implantation bleeding? If so it is usually lighter than a period and it can have some cramping. If you're talking about already being pregnant and spotting without cramping, you're probably okay but you do need to see your Dr. regardless. Most spotting during pregnancy should not have cramping. If you are bleeding and cramping go to the ER (if you're pregnant and know it).
