Can anyone help me? Question about ovulation!!?
-
Is this anovulation or something else? I am being treated for hypothyroidism (my levels are now in the normal range). But my cycles are still very irregular. I am having a hard time determining if I will ovulate this cycle or if I am experiencing anovulation because opk are unrelibale for people with hypothyroidism. Here's what my cycle has been like this month: (and last month I ovulated on day 39 then got my period 14 days after that making it a 53 day cycle) day 27 some cervical mucas, positive opk. day 36-37 brown discharge still no spike in temp day 38 (today) temp dropped from a normal 97.2 or 3 to 96.8 and had a littl ebit of blood. Not light pink but red. Although it didn't last and now it's back to brown discharge. Did I just start early and miss ovulation or is this something else? Doesn't temp go up and stay up until you start? That's the only thing that makes me think it might not be my period... Any ideas?

Answer:
Thats a little tough. I don't think I have a complete answer, but from what I've read, thyroid issues affect your basal body temp. Some people even monitor their basal body temps all the time as a way to tell if they are being medicated enough. Because your thyroid condition may be throwing off your temps, its hard to say for sure what is going on (I do think your data will still be worthwhile to keep doing it and share the info with your doctor). The temp drop with blood sounds like pre-period spotting. Its possible you will get your period in a few days though. I have been spotting brown discharge for 3 days before my period (and at least once in those 3 days there was bright red blood). This kind of pre-period spotting may last different lengths of time than mine did. It is a possible indication of a progesterone deficiency. This site gives a good explanation of what is normal. http://www.beyondfertility.com/art238.htm However, I called my doctor to discuss my spotting and I got blown off and had to suggest I get a CD21/7dpo blood check on my progesterone levels (they want to do it CD21, but I know that doing the test then is based on the assumption of a CD14 ovulation). Not all doctors seem to think this is an issue. Its possible you are pregnant, but you are only 11dpo, still early to test. I have heard that some women who spot before their periods will still spot when they are pregnant, but that it won't turn into a full period. This may be that the progesterone is low, but hasn't fallen off completely so once a pregnancy is detected, it ramps the progesterone back up again. I would expect your period 14 days or so after ovulation, which should have been within 12-36 hours of that + OPK. If not, then take a test then. Send me an email if you want to see my charts or discuss any of this further. I started taking a B-complex vitamin this cycle to possibly help with the spotting. There seems to be some success with this.
