Is it true that cats cause infertility?

Is it possible i cant get pregnant because i have cats?

  • I was just wondering if cats are the problem i cant conceive i heard they carry some thing around with them that affects pregnant women i want to know if it can cause infertility?

  • Answer:

Not at all sweetie, I have 3 cats and a healthy 11 week old baby. I got pregnant right after ttc. However you do have to be careful cleaning the cat litter box but only if your cats are outdoor cats and/or if they have been expossed to raw meat or a death animal because that carries a bacteria that can be dangerous to the fetus. Taxoplasmosis I believe, a cat's stool is a great environment for this bacteria to develop so make sure you wash your hands very well after cleaning the cat litter box and use Germex, I cleaned my cats box my whole pregnancy (husband is in Iraq) and my baby is healthy. Also make sure that YOU don't eat any raw meat, because you can get that bacteria from that too. Oh and if your cats are outdoor cats, make sure you also cover your mouth with something before cleaning the box. You'll be ok, cats don't cause infertility.

I've never heard of that. I do know that a cats litter box will cause miscarriage/or other problems in pregnancy.

Speaking from experience honey, I had five cats and two dogs and I still got pregnant! When you are pregnant, their is something in their CAT LITTER that is not good for you to breath in while you are pregnant, it is dangerous for the baby! Either have your husband clean the litter box, or wear a mask to clean it , or get rid of the cats, but avoid cleaning the litter box during your pregnancy, have someone else do it, or get rid of the cats. But you can still get pregnant while having cats! People live on a farm and they still get pregnant! Just take the proper care and keep in tabs with your doctor!

Cat faeces can carry a parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, an infection that isn't serious for you but can pose a danger to your developing baby. Some birds and other animals, as well as some raw or undercooked meats, can also carry the parasite. Toxoplasmosis causes most severe damage to the fetus if a woman comes down with it in her first trimester. Happily, the odds of contracting toxoplasmosis during pregnancy are low, and if you've had it once, you can't catch it again. What's more, it's rare for a woman to be infected for the first time during pregnancy. If you live with cats, the likelihood is even higher that you've already contracted the disease and developed an immunity to it. Experts recommend that pregnant women should avoid emptying the cat litter tray, but that it should be cleared every day by someone else. If you have to do it yourself, always wear gloves. Wear gloves when you're gardening, too, to cut down the risk of infection. There is a blood test which can show whether you have had toxoplasmosis. If you are worried, speak to your GP about it.

No, but perhaps you aren't getting pregnant because you are not properly educated. A pregnant woman should not come into contact with cat poop because there is a danger of a disease being transmitted.

It's most likely a myth. Cat allergies won't influence fertility. Unless your cats try to tear you up in the bed they won't cause infertility. I've heard lot of strange myths and I think this is probably one of them. Too cause infertility it has to be quite potent stuff. If cats do cause infertility there will be official warning put out by surgeon general or something. It's a myth. Cats don't cause that.

no! lol I have always had cats and I had no problems conceiving. As well as all the women in my family. We all have cats. The only thing about cats and pregnant women is...you can not clean the litter box because that is what is harmful to the pregnant women.
