How long did it take you to get pregnant after birth control?

If you have been on Birth Control for only around 3 weeks. how long does it take to get pregnant?

  • I have been on birth control for maybe 3 weeks and my husband and i wanted to get pregnant... if i just stop how long will it take to get pregnant? We have had some trouble in the past getting pregnant and i had REALLY irregular periods so we decided i would go on BC to regulate them but we really want to try again... so do you think it will hurt or help my case? or really not make a difference?

  • Answer:

im not sure why kind of BC you are on. If you are on the pill, just stop taking it. If you are on depo you have to wait the 3 months to get out of your system, and than it "can" take up 18 months to get pregnant.

In order to safely stop birth control you need to finish the pack you are on. After that it will probably take one-three months for the hormones to completely leave your system but it is possible to get pregnant at any time after you stop the pills.

The birth control pill works by preventing ovulation. Once you stop taking the pill, the hormones are out of your body quickly, usually within a couple of days. When the hormones are gone your body needs to start again on its own to function. That mean it will start producing follicles again, which eventually lead you to ovulate. Everybody acts differently, some may take a couple of weeks to ovulate, other may take some months, but in general your body should be in "normal mode" within less than two to three months after stopping the pill. So if you now ovulate normally, that means your body is back to its normal rhythm. Now, if you had problems with ovulation before you started the pill then the same issues may still be there. Some women take the pill for irregular periods and ovulation, and you cannot expect this to change once you stop the pill. By the way, five months of TTC is not long enough to be concerned. It takes on average four to five months to get pregnant, and 85% of couples take up to one year. Good luck

Have you seen your doctor about why you had trouble getting pregnant before? Don't stress about it, and don't plan sex, it just makes you stress more. Relax, watch a movie and breathe.

if you were on pills you could be pregnant as soon as the first month after you stop taking, or after your first regular period.

I agree with the person about - stick it out until you finish your cycle (no sense making it MORE erratic). I doubt that one cycle will affect your chances much.

it really just depends on the type of birth control you are on.

if you have only been on birth control for 3 weeks.. why not wait til you have had at least 2 or 3 regular periods.. it`s not like your going anywhere.. so just wait

Different for each person. I was on the pill for years and got pregnant the first month that I came off.
