What is chemical pregnancy?

  • Sorry but i have never head of this before . I'am barely pregnant and i keep hearing of all these ladies loosing their babies on some pregnancy forum that i visit.

    A chemical pregnancy is when a miscarriage happens very early (usually days after she gets a positive pregnancy test). One minute she's pregnant, the next she's not. They think a lot of women (who thought they periods were late) may have actually had a chemical pregnancy but because they never tested, they can't say for sure. One person stated the egg never implants. That's not accurate information. The egg has to implant inorder to produce the hcg hormone (hormone tested in pregnancy test) for a postive pregnancy test.

A chemical pregnancy is where conception took place, so you can get BFP, but the cells fail to divide adiquately, and therefore does not implant, so the pregnancy ends Just editing to say that BFP means big fat positive, as in pregnancy test ( just in case you didn't know) To the person below me, I think you will find you are wrong check here http://www.womens-health.co.uk/chemical.html

its when the sperm fertilises the egg but fails to implant into the uterus, or implants but fails to divide properly.this can happen from conception until about 6 weeks pregnant.women will experience a heaver than normal period which may be just a few days late or 2 wks late,but may have had a positive pregnancy test.thats why some women say they got a false positive but infact was pregnant and had a chemical pregnancy

Just to add another medical factoid to the mix.... It's a chemical pregnancy when it's been observed on a HPT test or a blood test. It's considered a clinical pregnancy when the sac and fetal heart movement are documented via ultrasound. I went through a 5 wk miscarriage about 6 wks ago. If you have even a day to get used to the idea of being pregnant it's hard. Hope this helps.
