How do I regulate my cycle?

How can I regulate my menstrual cycle?

  • I am trying to get pregnant, but I have very irregular periods (I usually go 2-4 months between having a period), so it is very difficult to track ovulation. How can I even out my menstrual cycle? (Obviously birth control is out of the question, as I am trying to get pregnant.)

  • Answer:

Hi I am having the same issue. I go about 2-3 months without a period, and I too am trying to get pregnant. My obgyn prescribed me glucophage, but I am a little afraid to take it. I was pregnant two years ago and had a miscarriage with twins, and ever since my D&C my periods have not been regular. Talk to your doctor and ask if there is a possibility that you could have PCOS, which is what the doc thought I had. Wish you luck

Get the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler! It will tell you how to track you ovulation and your period! It won't help with evening out your period, but it will help you identify when you ovulate! And that will help...because you will then know when you are fertile! It's a great book and I highly recommend it! Hope that helps...

Definitely get the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and also go see a Reproductive Endocrinologist. All they do is help people get pregnant and will run tests on you to see how best to help you get pregnant.

Have you visited a gynecologist regarding your unusually long menstrual cycle? If not, I suggest doing so. There are low-cost products on the market which can tell when you are ovulating -- usually by the chemicals in your saliva or urine.

No periods mean you are not ovulating. You need to go to the doctor. Have you been checked out for PCOS?

Ovulation can be easily predicted by charting your fertility signs. Then you don't have to worry about regular or irregular cycles. You may also figure out why your cycles are irregular. Even if you regulate your cycles, there's no guarantee that you'll ovulate on Day 14 or have enough good quality fertile cervical fluid. Long irregular cycles can also be a symptom of PCOS. Charting can help you figure that out. I've heard of using moonlight to regulate cycles too. I haven't used it b/c I find charting easier and it's hard for me to get my room as dark as necessary for the method to work. I think the method is called Lunaception or something like that. You can research it on the web.

My doctor gave me a low dose birth control. At first I didn't know it was birth control, but it does help give you regular cycles. It also helps you to ovulate. You should try charting your basal body temperature as well as your cycles. This aids your doctor in knowing what's wrong with out all the infertilly tests. You should see a docor. No periods mean you're not ovulating. Good luck! :)
