How much does acid cost?

About how much does folic acid cost?

  • am pregoo so i need it asap

  • Answer:

Just go to your local drugstore - CVS, Target, Walmart . . . wherever you go to for band-aids and prescriptions. Even most supermarkets carry them. You can pick up a generic brand pre-natal vitamin - usually btw $6.00 - $10.00 depending on the brand and the # of pills in the bottle. A prenatal vitamin will have your dosage of folic acid as well as other vitamins to keep you both healthy. At your doctors appointment, you can ask about a prescription pre-natal. Some women need an extra boost of iron or a stool softener and opt for the prescription versions. Best wishes for a happy & healthy pregnancy!

You can order them for less than $10 online at: http://www.puritan.com/ I was pregnant and this is the best thing you can do for yourself and your baby to prevent spina bifida and other neural tube defects. While you're waiting for them to arrive, be sure to eat lots of foods fortified with folic acid like tomato sauce (pasta based dinners), enriched breads and such. The governement has started requiring bread manufacterers to include folic acid in breads, so you should be OK if you eat plenty of bread. Just check the label to make sure you're getting 100% daily recommended dose. Here's a link for folic acid foods: http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/0711.html The U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for folate is 180 - 200 micrograms (mcg). Rich dietary sources of folate are recommended over supplements. They include: Dark green, leafy vegetables Whole wheat bread Lightly cooked beans and peas Nuts and seeds Sprouts Oranges and grapefruits Liver and other organ meats Poultry Fortified breakfast cereals and enriched grain products One cup of orange juice Raw is better when consuming greens and such as folic acid is susceptible to heat. It's much more important to take folic acid BEFORE you get pregnant. Taking it once you're already pregnant is nice, but won't give the same effect. You can usually get the recommended dose by eating a folate or folic acid enriched cereal. Lots of cereals have them now. "Overdosing is not good either."

Walgreens is a good choice; I know my bottle was less than $10. Really, any drug store brand is just fine unless you need the 4-5 mg. recommended for obese women and women who have a family history of neural tube defects or cleft palate. At that point, the prescription is cheaper.

Get a pre-natal vitamin, they all include folic acid along with many other things. You can get a two months supply for around $10 in most pharmacies.
