How much does IUI cost without insurance-Pls help me?
-
Hi.. I live in Dallas TX. I need to find out how much does an IUI cost without any health insurance.I know no one knows the exact cost but still if you can give me some idea,It would be great. I need to know the cost including everything (medications, sperm collection and washing, and the insemination). I was planning on taking a health insurance but as we all know it does not cover fertility treatment so will it be better if we do not take any health insurance. OR would you still suggest me to take a health insurance. Will it cover anything like medications, RE visit, ultrasound etc?

Answer:
Just for the IUI and sperm washing my RE charges about $300. The ultrasounds ($200 ea) are another cost. They may also do bloodwork to check your hormone levels (estrogen and LH) so those will be another $100 or so. The medication depends on whether you are using Clomid or injects. Clomid is a lot cheaper (anywhere from $15.00 to $50) and injects can be anywhere from $300-$2000 depending on where you buy them and how much you need. You'll be triggered so they can get the timing just right. An hCG trigger shot is about $50.00. Some insurance covers fertility, some only covers diagnostic testing but not any treatment, and some has no fertility coverage at all. Whether or not it's worth it depends on what kind of coverage you're getting. I have Blue Cross PPO, but my company is very small so my fertility benefits are very little. At this point, everthing for me is out of pocket. Good luck.

I live in Iowa, and my Femara cost $138, I think. My first IUI cost $450, with my DH sperm, caused they performed a morphology test on it. That covered everything (collection, washing, insertion, etc.) The next IUI's cost only $250-350 I believe. These were last year's prices, so I'm sure the cost has gone up. Since I was paying out of pocket, they didn't do any ultrasounds or anything on me during the middle of the cycle (looking for follicles, etc.).

Most insurances do not cover fertility treatment unless your state mandates that it does. My RE charges anywhere between $1,000 to $2500 for IUI's depening on what meds and dosage you are on. It covers all bloodwork, U/S's, sperm washing/ etc.
