How much should I charge for in home daycare? (Michigan)?
-
I am opening a high quality in home daycare and currently in the process of getting licensed and coming up with rates, etc. Here are my thoughts so far: # children: First 2nd 3rd Part-time per child Infant $135 $125 $120 $90 Toddler $125 $100 $95 $80 Preschool $120 $100 $95 $75 School Age $115 $90 $85 $70 Rates will include breakfast, 2 snacks and lunch. If special diet (or infant/toddler needing specific diet), the parent(s) will be responsible for providing. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 pm (yet I will be flexible). Early drop offs and late pick ups will be charged an additional small fee for each 10 minutes early or late. (Not sure how to work this). I will be using a time stamp clock to keep track of hours. Would it make more sense to charge hourly then? Does the pricing seem reasonable?

I run and in home day care in Kentucky. I'm certified to keep 6 children and I have a Bachelor's degree in Family Studies. I hoping to open my own day care after my second daughter is born in August. I charge $135 until the child is 1. Then 1 and older I charge $110. I serve the children Breakfast, Lunch, and a afternoon snack. You can contact your CCC and they can offer reimbursement for you feeding the children as long as you follow their guidelines. I don't charge for early drop off just because it does not happen very often. I charge $2.00 for every five minutes. I'm not sure about using the time stamp. I do have clipboard so the parents can sign the child in and out and that does help keep track of the time the child is here. But if someone is paying you a full time rate than their child can be there as long as it between 7:30-5:30 as many hours a day. Also, I found that if you have a contract written up and it's signed by your parents and you and they are aware of things up front than there is no questions asked. Because you will always have this to fall back on. I have been doing in home for three years and I ran two head start programs. My parents do pay when their child is sick or they call off their pay will always be the same it will never change unless. I have it written in my contract that I get six sick/personal days a year. Then after that I will take the days without pay. I also have what days I will be closed for Holidays and those are days that I will get paid for as well. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions and I can help please email me.

Your prices are reasonable, but factor in extra activities and supplies. You can write off extra toys and such.Just remember to take on enough kids to make money, not too many to not enjoy the job.

I would knock it down by ab. $5 each price. I wouldn't charge hourly because people get nit picky. That's just my opinion and what I would pay. But I would also limit my kids to school age so I could take them to do fun stuff and be able to get out of the house easier. Then you could charge more or ask the parents to pay for activities. And your house would stay cleaner because you could not be there and ask them to pick up after themselves. Good luck.

I think you should charge more for an infant. Most daycares charge between $150 and $200 a week for babies under a year old. But for part-timers and school age children, daycare providers (at least in my state) charge by the hour. I only pay $30 a week for before and after school daycare for one child.

I live in Michigan as well. We are in a small town 1 1/2 hours north of Grand Rapids. Our daughter is in day care from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Are you enrolled in the meal program? The state gives you money for food, so it is not a huge expense for you and your day care families. My day care provider charges everyone $2 an hour. We started day care when my daughter was 14 months old. She helped me potty train as well. She does not charge outragious amounts of money, but their is a waiting list for children to get in. Our second choice charges anyone full time $ 90 a week. (she does not take part timers)

I'm guessing this is per week. The pricing is fine!!! This is the career I'm in college for right now however I don't want a home day cares. I want an actual building. I don't want to mix home and work plus I want my day cares to be huge so I need a building for it. It all depends where you are though, if you're in the ghetto don't expect that kind of money. You're going to need to prove that the children are being educated etc. Best of luck! also do you have early childhood education certif or are you doing this without because if you are expect a law suit.
