How to get my 2 year old to eat?
-
My daughter is 2 and for the past 2 weeks she wont eat hardly anything. I know shes been teething but all she will eat everyday is fruit and yogurt. I have tried all different types of food. And even when shes not teething all she will eat are hot dogs and chicken nuggets which isnt the most healthy. Shes so picky and stubborn! And it she gets even worse when i put her in her highchair. She screams and throws her food. I just feel like shes not getting enough to eat. I will make her a meal and she refuses to eat it, then ill be eating and she will want mine. So I will go make her some and she wont eat it. It gets tiring making food over and over and her wasting it. what should I do? is this just a phase or is it the teething causing this?

Answer:
As paraphrased above, Ellyn Satter has great advice on feeding your toddler. Read here for more information http://www.ellynsatter.com/11-to-36-months-feeding-your-toddler-i-31.html At two our daughter hated her high chair but loved sitting in a booster seat at the table with us. I bought clear plastic shower curtains to cover the dining room chair and put her booster on it. I also cut it to fit and put the plastic on the floor. I found she ate much better at a family meal with us. If she screams and throws her food, she's done. Put her down. Put the food away. Period. Do not give in. She can eat at the next regularly scheduled snack or meal time.

You can't. Just let her snack. Try frozen fruit and veggies as a treat to help with the pain. blueberries are perfect. Or you could cut up grapes and freeze them. Here is the rules when it comes to children and eating. Parents/care givers are responsible for offering healthy foods at regular intervals. Children are responsible for how much they eat. If they dont' eat you remove the food and offer something else at the next eating time. if you are hardcore they get nothing in between so they learn to eat at meal time. In my opionion that's too harsh, as long as they are eating healthy choices and not junk, my children can eat anytime. There is nothing special at mealtimes for 2 year olds.

Drop her.

the teething is most likely the cause of all the moodiness. Maybe try Pediasure sidekicks for nutrition? if this continues though, you should speak to your doctor about what they recommend.

Instead of fixing her a new plate when she wants your food, just feed her from your plate. Part of the attraction is that its Mommy's food. My son and I share all the time. He thinks its fun to eat my food. (He thinks its funnier to feed me.) Search for recipes that allow you to put fruits and veggies in to muffins, cookies, etc. I wish I could remember it, but there's a site for sweet potatoes that has recipes for breadsticks, soup, and even pizza. If she's throwing a fit about her high chair maybe you could get her a booster seat so she can sit at the table. I would wait until she's done teething to introduce any new foods. Once she is though try giving her just a little bit of something each time she eats. Just give her two Tbsp, that way if she doesn't eat it you aren't wasting so much. If you keep offering new stuff, eventually she'll try it, and probably like it.
