Marketing strategies in tv advertising?

Questions for Parents on Marketing to Children 2-14yrs?

• I am currently working on an assignment for university on marketing/Advertising to children, and I am wanting to get your views as a parent on the issue. If you would be able to give me your thoughts on the following questions I would greatly appreciate your help. Question 1- Do you feel that the laws governing marketing towards children are adequate? Question 2- Do you feel that your children are able to understand the messages in marketing E.g. TV advertisements? Question 3 - Do you feel the need to restrict your child's viewing of television due to advertising/marketing? Question 4 - Do you feel the need to restrict or monitor internet usage? Question 5 - Have you had to deal with 'Pester power'? Question 6- Do you feel that advertising contributes to children being overly sexualised? Question 7- How much say do your children have when it comes to large family purchases E.g. Car, Family Holiday, Home Appliances? Question 8- How does advertising/marketing affect the food choices made in your family? Question 9- What age is your child/ren? Thank you very much for your help

  1 I guess... I'm in Texas though, not Australia. 2 No. I don't think he understands *any* of it. 3 No. 4 No. 5 No. 6 Maybe some children... so far not my son though. 7 None. When he gets older he'll have some say. 8 I guess it sometimes influences me or my wife. My son however isn't smart enough to ask for food while we're at the store. For example, we'll get home from Walmart and he'll ask for a cookie. Sorry dude, we walked through the cookie isle at Walmart and you didn't say anything, so we didn't buy any cookies and we don't have any cookies. He does that like, all the time. I wonder when he *will* understand that asking for his favorite foods at the store is a good idea... 9 He's 2.75yo.
