Answer:
you have to be the parent and take a stance to change trust me they will change to the sippy cup when they are thirsty enough 9 mo to 1 year is the ideal age to change the cold turkey method

Hi,my daughter is 21.5months old.It was very easy to ween her from breast to bottle to sippy cup.Just simply get rid of the bottles and put his beverages in a sippy cup.I weened her from bottle to sippy cup at 11months(because I was concerned about the possible of tooth decay resulting from prolonged sucking).I tried the hard tip Playtex cups, but enjoyed the ones made by Evenflo. She didn't resist at all.Its easier than you think.Just don't provide options for him.Even if he resist at first, don't give in.Mom knows best.

I started mine on sippys as soon as they were holding their own bottle and sitting up well. They still had a bottle at nap and bedtime, but the sippy was special, it had juice, or milk. The bottle only had milk, and then (around 15 to 18 months) only water. Get him use to the sippy at meal times, then gradually only the sippy. As for brands to use, I bought a couple soft spout ones for my youngest for her first ones, then bought the cheapest I could find. You will probably lose quite a few, and the inner valves end up where ever the lost socks go! It can get expensive to pay $5 for them! There are some now called "take n toss" very cheap, like 2.50 for 6 of them. They are VERY handy to keep in the diaper bag or glove box so your child will always have a easy way to get a drink. I imagine your son will really like it, most babies feel like they have a new toy! BTW, It would also be good to get him a regular cup to play with, I did this with my kids, and they learned to drink from grown-up cups that way.

I weaned my son at nine months.I bought a "Nuby" sippy cup. They sell them at Walmart. The spout part is made of rubber, like a bottle nipple,so it was easier to transition him from bottle to cup.The first time I gave it to him,I threw his bottles out.It is also spill proof so it makes it easy if he usually goes to bed with his bottle.Good Luck!I hope this helps.

My daugther was completely off the bottle at 6 months old. Most doctors will tell you to have them off of it by the time they are a year old. For my daughter I started her with a cup that has a soft spout similiar to the nipple on a bottle. It seems to make it easier for them to transistion that way.

My 9-month-old daughter, who's still nursing twice a day, has been drinking water from an Avent sippy cup (the kind with "wings") for a few months now. I started handing one to her as soon as she could hold on to it, even if she couldn't manage to get a drink, and now she's quite proficient. She even prefers the cup to a bottle. It was no trouble at all. She thought it was great to be a big kid like her older sister. Actually, my older daughter first drank from a cup when she was only 8 weeks old. She would nurse or take a bottle just fine at home, but she wouldn't at daycare, even though we sent our own bottles. Her daycare provider tried everything she could think of to get Phoebe to eat during the day, including a cup. And the cup worked after a few days, although she eventually went back to the bottle at least sometimes.

Platex has an insulated sippy cup that is greeeaat. Now is a good time to start.
nuby makes a sippy that the nipple is soft. they come in assorted shapes and are no spill.they are about $1.50 at wal-mart. our first son only had bottles when he was really little and by six months was taking a sippy. this one was great. it feels like a bottle ( the nipple does) so its an easy adjustment. the shape is like a normal sippy and makes the next transition to the regular sippy very easy. ( dont get the sport edition- the nipple is shaped like a straw and though it helps transition to a straw it is not spill proof ) 14 months is not a bad age to switch over so dont let anyone give you any flack. Every baby does things at their own pace. Good Luck!
