Healthy Lunch Ideas for a Toddler?

What are some good lunch ideas for my toddler?

  • I feel as though I feed my toddler nothing but carbs. for example, mac and cheese, those pastas that you add butter and water to, sandwhiches (bread), chicken nuggests, etc. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can feed my daughter for lunch that doesn't have carbs in it? Or things that aren't heavy like those pastas and stuff. Please list things with no carbs and also I take her to work with me so I pack her lunch every single day but I do have a microwave at work. Thanks for all the help.

Get her hooked on fresh fruit and veggies. You can wash grapes and bag them in advance for the week. Carrot sticks are great too, and kids love dip. Every child needs carbs, so don't totally eliminate them from her diet. She should have whole grain crackers or breads with her lunches. Cottage cheese and yogurt are also great ideas. Sliced apples with peanut butter dip would be good, and with protein. Chicken breast cut into strips is a good choice to add with the protein. There are so many things you can do with veggies, fruits, and lean meats. Just cut them up so they're easy for her to eat, and make sure to include carbs, too. Good luck!

how about celery with peanut butter and raisins, or some fruit and yogurt, you can also just make some meat and cheese roll ups with some fruit on the side, remember that as long as she is eating healthy food and getting good carbs and protein she doesn't have to have a typical meal like a sandwich or mac a cheese... you will get creative after you have made a couple of meals you will realize that leftovers are good and you can do just about anything with some leftover meat and veggies... this is how I prepare my kids' meals everyday, and instead of bread you can use tortilla, pita or flatbread

I know you want a list of non-carbs but the truth is that the carbs are good for her. She is running around so much and burning those carbs so fast that it is not that big of an issue. My son is 14 months and i feed him some type of sandwich and fruit just about every day for lunch. He goes to work with me also. As long as you are giving her enough fruit and veggies to go with her meals then you should not worry about it. Remember, carbs are bad for adults that are trying to loose weight, not for a toddler who needs fuel to burn. Just make sure the carbs are not real fatty like fried chicken nuggets. My son gets a turkey sandwich and some type of fruit just about every day for lunch, then he has a well balanced dinner. GO by the food pyramid, it is still good for something.

Try taking sliced lunchmeat and sliced cheese and roll it up together. My toddler calls them "roll-ups". I make about 3 of these. I add a few crackers, like ritz or club and throw in some kind of fruit like grapes or tangerines or maybe baby carrots or celery sticks. And maybe a small chocolate milk. It covers all the major food groups and your child will love it! Also, there's no cooking involved!

Fresh cut fruit is always a good choice. My 2 yr old loves the little bowls of tangerine slices by Dole (even tho not fresh). String cheese is a great snack. Here's something i do sometimes, it's different but it gets the nourishment in; put about 1/2 a cup of oatmeal into about 1 cup or more of milk; add nesquick cocoa powder. let it sit from morning until noon in fridge so it become soft (you may need more milk, remember that oats expand). This meal is like an odd choclate shake. I ate it every morning in college. Also, you can give her just plain lunch meat.

get some dips and some veggies like carrots and celery and things like that. bring a yogurt in and have some tasty strawberry and raspberry put them on her finger every kid loves doing that. all so you could make some sandwhichs out of the low carb bread to make it a bit more exciting get a cookie cutter and make them round.

You know what's really good are the pre-cooked chicken breast pieces-Tyson and Perdue both make them and I have seen them in the produce aisle as well as in the raw chicken area. Put them in a low carb tortilla with a little lettuce or tomato and some cheese. And what about cheese? It's so tasty and healthy (okay, it's loaded wtih fat but that's probably okay for kids). And peanut butter on celery. Sugar snap peas are yummy-get the stringless kind and offer her those with some carrots and lightly steamed broccoli for her own little crudite platter with some dip. Put shredded cheese in a tortilla, fold over, wave for 30 seconds and boom! You have a quesadilla. Boca burgers are very healthy and very delicious, load em up with pickles and ketchup. They are microwavable. Good luck!

Im having the same problem. Sometimes for lunch I try to just give her greens. Try eggs in there too.
